Why author GP Taylor is selling his beautiful historic home in Bridlington
What also helps is having what Virginia Woolf, a very different kind of writer to GP, referred to in her 1929 essay as “A Room of One's Own”, where she could write and think freely away from domestic responsibilities.

Hide AdGP Taylor’s beautiful and spacious period house in Bridlington’s historic Old Town certainly offers that and much, much more.
It dates back to the 1700s and was built on the old Roman road on Westgate, a quiet street within walking distance of the Old Town’s many charms, including its tree lined park and bowling green, market place, the Priory Church and the Bayle Museum, along with the Georgian Tea Rooms.

The Old Town, famous for its 1940s day and vintage fairs, was also one of David Hockney’s favourite places to visit when he lived in “Brid”.
Over the years, West End House has been the home of several Mayors of Bridlington and during the last war was used as a billet for officers at the local airfield. All the historical documents are intact and come with the sale of the house. The property also featured in the recent adaptation of the film Dad’s Army.

There is also scope for turning the house into holiday lets or flats.
GP and his family have turned the large walled garden into a low maintenance, nature rich space with a variety of wildlife and a 200-year-old beech tree and this private enclave is within walking distance of the sea.
Recently, the family has run a small animal sanctuary, taking in injured creatures and nursing them back to health. They are moving to buy a home with more land so they can expand the sanctuary.

Hide AdGP, who has written 20 books and two films as well as presenting an ITV series on the supernatural called Uninvited Guests, says: “I have spent most of my life hunting the supernatural and when I bought West End House, I thought that with its history it might have a resident ghost. Sadly, there is nothing here and the only spirits you will find are in my drink’s cabinet. It is a warm and friendly house that over the years has been loved and cared for.”
West End House is on the market for £799,950 with Carter Jonas York, tel: 01904 558200.
On November 15, GP Taylor publishes his 21st book “Pig in the Pulpit”, a fictional account of his time as a police officer and a priest in rural Yorkshire.
