Abduction-charge man remanded in custody

A 35-YEAR-OLD man accused of abducting a 14-year-old girl has been remanded in custody by magistrates.

The teenager disappeared from her home near Doncaster in South Yorkshire a week ago.

She was found by police at Euston station in central London on Friday, where John Bush was arrested.

Bush appeared before magistrates in Doncaster yesterday charged with child abduction.

He is also charged with making off without payment from a hotel in Leicestershire.

Bush, of Moss Road, Askern, Doncaster, was arrested following a five-day search for the girl.

He was remanded in custody yesterday and told he will appear again at Sheffield Crown Court on July 1.

There was no application for bail.

Bush stood in the glass-fronted dock flanked by two security officers for the 15-minute hearing.

Wearing a navy blue T-shirt, he spoke to confirm his personal details and to indicate that he understood the charges.

His solicitor, Cedric Hennis, told the bench that Bush would not be indicating a plea at this stage.

Chairman of the bench Carmen Thompson told Bush they had decided to send the case to the crown court.

Bush is charged with one count under the Child Abduction Act 1984. He is also charged with making off without paying for two hotel rooms in Melton Mowbray, avoiding payment of £60.
