Busy route faces night-time closure

ONE of the busiest routes in Rotherham is to be closed at night throughout March and April, while roadworks are carried out.

The A6123 Aldwarke Lane and the A6123 Herringthorpe Valley Road will be closed between 8pm and 6am, where the two roads meet at the Mushroom roundabout, from Monday, March 14.

During the works, a set of traffic lights will be installed and the road will also be resurfaced.

Access to local businesses such as Asda and McDonalds will be maintained.

A Rotherham Council spokesman said: “The entrance to the site from the A630 Doncaster Road will also be closed at times, with a diversion set up to guide motorists to the entrance on Aldwarke Lane.

“Motorists are warned to expect delays when passing through the roundabout because the planned resurfacing works will disrupt traffic flows.

“The installation of lights on the roundabout is geared to ease congestion, improve bus journey times and provide enhanced pedestrian and cycle facilities at this key junction, which currently experiences bad congestion.

“The scheme is expected to be complete by June this year.”
