City casino reopens after £1.5m overhaul

A casino and restaurant that has been in business for more than three decades reopened last night with a lavish launch party after its owners spent £1.5m on a revamp.

Napoleons Casino and Restaurant in Ecclesall Road, Sheffield, welcomed guests from across the region to an event which included an authentic ringmaster and a troupe of can can girls.

There was also a charity poker game in aid of the city's Weston Park Hospital to officially launch the venue's new high-tech poker room, which has been built alongside a new enlarged gaming floor.

Guests were served food in the refurbished Four Seasons restaurant, which has been enlarged to seat more than 100 diners and includes a private dining area for corporate events.

Managers said the restaurant now had its own entrance independent of the casino to make it more attractive to those not interested in gambling.

The director of A&S Leisure Group which owns and runs Napoleons, Mark Allen, said he hoped it would become one of Sheffield's most desirable entertainment venues.

Speaking ahead of last night's opening he added: "We are really looking forward to the launch event this evening and have been working hard over the last few months to ensure everything is ready for the grand opening.

"Napoleons has provided 34 years of fantastic evening entertainment and this makeover will really take dining and entertainment in Sheffield to the next level."
