Fly tipping incidents reported by local authorities rose by 16% across the whole of England over the past year, according to new figures, while enforcement action by councils fell by four per cent.

5. Rotherham
Rotherham saw a 32% increase in fly tipping over the past year. In 2019/20, 4,429 incidents were reported, compared to 5834 in 2020/21.
6. Barnsley
There were 5652 fly tipping incidents reported by Barnsley Council in 2020/21 - a 51% jump from the 3740 reported the previous year.
7. Wakefield
Wakefield has actually seen a drop in fly tipping rates over the past year, according to the council. In 2020/21, 2,436 incidents were reported by the local authority, compared to 2,628 the previous year - a drop of -7%.
8. Calderdale
Fly tipping in Calderdale rose by 28% over the course of the past year, according to the local authority. In 2020/21 it reported 2,380 incidences of fly tipping, compared to 1,856 in 2019/20.
