Fly tipping incidents reported by local authorities rose by 16% across the whole of England over the past year, according to new figures, while enforcement action by councils fell by four per cent.

There were 1,808 incidences of fly tipping reported in York during 2020/21 - a rise of 17% from the previous year when the total stood at 1540.

Scarborough saw a significant 103% rise in fly tipping in 2020/21, compared to the previous year. The council reported 1058 incidents of fly tipping across the past year, compared to 743 in 2019/20.

Doncaster Council reported 1177 fly tipping incidents in 2020/21 - a 14% drop from the 1373 reported across the previous 12 months.

There was a -11% drop in fly tipping year-on-year in the East Riding of Yorkshire, according to local authority data. 1287 fly tipping incidents were reported in 2020/21, while the year before saw 1442.
