But it was in capturing the essence of his home town, Dewsbury, that he excelled.
A prominent member of the local Arts Group, he contributed to many of its calendars, and in 2010 was honoured with an exhibition of his work at the Town Hall.
Born in Birstall, he had attended Batley Grammar School and Batley Art College, where he studied interior design.
He worked as an exhibition designer at Team Constructions in Mirfield where he designed a float for the Lord Mayor’s Show.
Moving to Thornhill, he became a member of the folk group, Crab Apples, founded by regulars from the Savile Arms.
He lives his widow, Liz, three children and their grandchildren.
