Falling fireplace kills boy, 3

A three-year-old boy was killed when a marble fireplace fell on him.

The youngster, named locally as James Curtis, died in hospital following the tragedy at his home in Wirral, Merseyside.

Merseyside Police said emergency services were called to the address in Tranmere at 11am on Monday. A spokesman added: “Paramedics attended and took the boy to hospital where he unfortunately died.

“Officers are at the property as is normal procedure following the sudden or unexplained death of a child. An investigation into the full circumstances is ongoing.”
