Farm campaigners meet Asda boss over prices

LEADERS of a farm campaigning group yesterday held a meeting with bosses at supermarket chain Asda after staging protests outside its milk distribution depot near Wakefield.

Farmers for Action told the Leeds-based retailer's head of ethical purchasing, Chris Brown, that the company had been targeted because of its role in the milk price war which the farmers blame for driving down prices.

The demonstration was one of several held around the UK by Farmers for Action.

The company said they had held "a good, open and frank discussion" and FFA leaders said they were promised a response to their arguments on Tuesday. Meanwhile they are consulting their own lawyers over Asda's demand for written undertakings to obey a court injunction against causing disruption.

The group hit the headlines earlier in the year after targeting rival supermarket Tesco over its pricing policies on milk.
