Gastropub scoops yet another award

AN EAST Yorkshire gastropub has taken bronze in national awards and gold for its “innovative” wine-list.

The Pipe and Glass Inn, at South Dalton, near Beverley, added to its groaning trophy cabinet by coming third in this year’s Top 50 Gastropub Awards. The Michelin-starred pub also took top slot in the award’s new Wine List of the Year category.

In both 2013 and 2014, it was named the country’s fourth best gastropub. This year it was behind only the Michelin starred Sportsman in Kent and the Pony & Trap in Somerset.

The awards were announced at a ceremony at restaurant Hermitage Road in Hitchin, hosted by chef Tom Kerridge, who said the Pipe and Glass’s wine list stood out from the rest.

The judges were also impressed by the recent introduction of the pub’’s own-label wine.

Chef James Mackenzie said they were thrilled to win in the brand new category against stiff competition.

He added: “It’s also a tribute to our excellent wine suppliers, House of Townend in Hull, Firth & Co in Bedale and Bon Coeur Fine Wines in Masham.””
