Howzat! Former Garforth eyesore bowled out by £1m new homes development

A former “eyesore” in east Leeds has been transformed into a £1m-plus collection of energy-saving family homes.

Developers have breathed new life into the site of a demolished dairy depot and yard in Green Lane, Garforth, by creating four, 4-bedroom detached houses in its place.

Named Cricketers View – the homes overlook Garforth Parish Church Cricket Club – the development marks the first venture into residential property by the family-run, Leeds-based company, Volfortis.

Planners gave the go-ahead for the brownfield site’s redevelopment after hearing that the design and layout of the homes would “contribute in a positive vein to the visual amenity of it, and the character of the area as a whole”.

Locals had previously dubbed the site “an eyesore”.

Priced between £245,000 and £315,000, the collection is now being launched to market through the Roundhay and Wetherby offices of sales and letting agents Linley & Simpson. All four are ready to move into.

Joseph Ullmann, Director of Volfortis, said: “We are delighted at the way these homes have broken new ground for us as a developer, and create a strong platform to take forward other projects in the pipeline.

“Our new-build homes bring an injection of much-needed new housing to Garforth, whose popularity as a place to live and work continues to grow.

“Having the benefit of Leeds and all it has to offer close at hand, together with the semi-rural environment of Garforth, Cricketers View really does enjoy the best of both worlds.

“The area still maintains a village feel whilst enjoying excellent local facilities together with vast areas of open countryside.

“Local shops and quality schools are in abundance, all adding to the attractiveness of this location which also boasts unrivalled transport links on its doorstep – whether it be train, car or bus.”

He added: “One of the hallmarks of the development is the attention to detail. Wedded to an enhanced specification, it equips these family homes with quality fittings throughout.

“They are all energy efficient, compatible with the demands of modern living, and really provide flexible accommodation to suit most needs.”
