Man was racially abused on packed Sheffield to Huddersfield train service

The man was on board the 10.41pm Sheffield to Huddersfield service on Saturday, July 23, when the pair made racist gestures towards him.

It took place at around 11pm as the Northern Train service travelled between Chapeltown and Wombwell.

Investigating officer PC Ewan Brechin said: “A man and woman on the service were seen to make extremely offensive racist gestures towards a young black man travelling on the same service.

“Did you see the incident? Do you have any information about what happened?”

The man was described as 6ft and stocky, with receding short, greying, ginger hair. He was sunburnt and wearing a short sleeved shirt.

The woman was white, aged around 50, approximately 5ft 7in, with a tanned complexion and shoulder length white blonde hair. She was wearing a dress.

PC Brechin added: “Everyone has the right to use the rail network with fear of abuse, intimidation or violence.”
