Delivery robots will only add another barrier to our pavements - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Peter Butler, Bingley.

I've written to my Council leader sharing my serious concerns about delivery robots popping up on our streets.

Many of our pavements are already lousy with obstacles, forcing older people, parents with buggies and wheelchair users off what should be the safety of the pavement and into traffic. Now we’re adding another barrier – one that can move into your path, stop without warning and even crash into you.

Delivery robots have been banned in some North American cities, following reports of robots injuring people and clogging pavements. We're now seeing them on pavements across the UK despite no clear laws allowing their use and, in some cases, no prior notification to the local authority.

The charity, Living Streets, has raised concerns with the Transport Secretary, and I've expressed my support for their ‘Pavement Overload' campaign. I encourage anyone else who believes pavements are for people to join me.
