Neville Hargreaves (The Yorkshire Post, August 11) made some interesting and highly relevant cases for the sustainable future of aviation, which Leeds Bradford Airport supports fully.

Throughout the process of our planning application, we have clearly demonstrated how we will move towards a sustainable future and repeatedly been criticised for ‘smoke and mirrors’ on our emissions reports. We have consistently said that the aviation sector is committed to a zero carbon future and that sustainable fuels are not as far away as some believe.

Velocys’ alternative fuel solution is government-backed, using highly skilled expertise from the aviation and energy sectors.

Their scientific evidence demonstrates that we are not only close to having options that significantly reduce carbon emissions, but that those solutions are compatible with existing aircraft. With a new net zero terminal building, set up to deliver these new fuel options, Leeds Bradford Airport would be well-placed to take on our environmental challenges and make our commitments a reality.

Now is the time for us to be ambitious and seize the opportunity for a once in a generation infrastructure project to transform how we operate.

Editor’s note: first and foremost - and rarely have I written down these words with more sincerity - I hope this finds you well.
