The hospital with a better menu than a hotel

From: Mrs M Jill Coupe, Great Thirkleby, Thirsk.

I HAVE recently returned home following an operation in the Gara orthopaedic ward at our local hospital, the Friarage, Northallerton.

The corridors, sitting areas, ward, shower rooms and lavatories were immaculate. The floor in “my” bay was swept, washed and polished (non-slip) every day including the weekend. All the furniture was wiped over with disinfectant daily.

The food was excellent. There was plenty of choice, even at tea/coffee breaks, with fresh fruit always available and local (County Durham) sourced yoghurt. On Sunday we had the choice of a roast lunch and another hot meal for supper. Vegetarian choices were good (I have seen more mundane dishes on a superior hotel menu).

Last, but never least, the staff, whatever colour their uniforms, were kind, considerate, helpful and understanding. This is our North Riding hospital and draws patients from as far afield as Hawes (Wensleydale). If my experience is anything to go by, no one need worry about being a patient there.

I and all the people that I love and who love me are very grateful for the care I received.
