Fire crews damping down at site of blaze in West Yorkshire which sent huge plume of smoke into the air

Fire crews are damping down after a huge blaze in Dewsbury sent a plume of smoke into the air which could be seen for miles.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a building in Bretton Park Way, Savile Town just after 7pm on April 12. A total of eight pumps were at the scene at the height of the fire.

Police also attended the scene and cordoned off the road.

However, just one pump and one aerial appliance remain on scene this morning and the fire is now under control. The fire sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky which could be seen as far as away as Barnsley.

A statement from the fire service said: "Damping down in progress at Bretton Park Way, Savile Town, Dewsbury. The incident has been scaled back & there's still 1 fire engine &1 aerial appliance on scene Thanks to local residents & our partner agencies for their support as we tackled the incident."
