Several inches of snow fell on high ground in Yorkshire overnight.

Among the areas to receive a covering were Fleet Moss, Newby Head Pass and Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales.

He reported that cars and HGVs appeared to be coping well with the conditions and none had so far become stranded. Mr Beresford also provides rescue services for trapped vehicles.

At 9am this morning snow was still falling on the B6255 between Hawes and Ingleton.

The Yorkshire Shepherdess, Amanda Owen, also Tweeted images of snow at her farm, Ravenseat in Swaledale.
