Doncaster Sheffield Airport: £57m loan will proceed after vote on amendment - as it happened
An extraordinary council meeting is taking place this morning to determine whether a £57m loan for the Doncaster Sheffield Airport project will be cancelled - and potentially ‘kill’ the reopening.
Reform, which has the majority of councillors on City of Doncaster Council, has put forward a motion calling for a £57m loan for the DSA reopening to be rescinded.
The money was originally approved by councillors in November but in January, previously-secret clauses within the airport lease became public following the document being leaked to The Yorkshire Post. Reform state they had “materially-incomplete information” at the time of the November vote.
Labour has warned rescinding the planned borrowing would “kill” the reopening. Reform’s deputy leader Jason Charity told The Yorkshire Post on Sunday that the party will not cancel the loan immediately but is likely to amend its motion to propose a series of new “safeguards” governing the release of the money.
