A GAY pride festival which caused controversy in Doncaster last year is to go ahead at the town’s racecourse in 2010, with organisers insisting the it is here “to stay”.

Doncaster’s mayor Peter Davies said he would not fund minority projects such as Doncaster Pride when he was elected last year, but cash has been found for the event.

He added: “This move to the racecourse gives us the chance to develop and grow our event in what has to he one of the most prestigious event venues of any Pride event in the UK.”

Racecourse managing director Adam Waterworth added: “We are really pleased to welcome Doncaster Pride. Combining our experiences will, I am sure, result in a fantastic event.”
