Motorcyclist died after being struck by oncoming car after falling off bike while overtaking

A motorcyclist who died at the scene of a horror crash in Yorkshire was hit by an oncoming car after falling off his bike while overtaking, police have said.

The rider, a man in his early 30s, died at the scene of the crash on Front Street in Glasshoughton, near Castleford, on Tuesday (May 28) at around 4pm.

West Yorkshire Police said the rider of the Keeway RKV motorbike was heading east on the road when it hit the back of a Ford Puma it was overtaking.

The contact led to the rider losing control and falling off his bike. He was then hit by an oncoming Ford Ka.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “Both the bike and rider, a man in his early 30s, were in collision with an oncoming Ford Ka. Emergency services quickly attended the scene where it was established the rider had sadly sustained fatal injuries in the incident.

“A road closure was put in place on Front Street while recovery and investigation work was carried out.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police's Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101, quoting incident number 1146 of May 28.
