Video: Harrogate Spring Antiques Fair

The collection of nine helmets, which are one-third the size of traditional helmets made by an unnamed craftsman of those worn by the Heavy Dragoons and are expected to sell for around £7,000.

William Cook, of William Cook, Hungerford, which is selling the collection said: “These were made for the armourers own collection and are very rare.”

The items are on sale at the Harrogate Antique and Fine Art Fair, from today until May 5 at the Harrogate International Centre.

New to the fair this spring are art dealers Philip Mould Portrait Miniatures, from London and RMJ Antiques. Mr Mould will be familiar to many from the BBC One series, Fake or Fortune, which he co-hosted with Fiona Bruce.

He has brought a miniature painting by Charles Shirreff of Colonel Gordon Skelly, who was born in Yarm. It is thought to have been painted just before he headed off into battle.

While Sutcliffe Galleries, of Harrogate, have a painting of Whitby, which depicts a family involved in the fishing industry by Lester Sutcliffe.

Other items at the fair include a Meissen Coffee Solitaire Set, once displayed at Chatsworth, with an asking price of £20,000 being sold by RMJ and an art deco hoop dancer sculpted about 1920 in bronze which is being sold at the fair by Solo Antiques, Preston.
