Barnsley boxer Callum Simpson given chance to avenge defeat to Troy Williamson as Leeds rematch confirmed
Barnsley boxer Callum Simpson has been given the chance to avenge the first loss of his professional career.
In December, Troy Williamson pumped the brakes on the Yorkshireman’s ascent with a fourth-round stoppage win.
Williamson claimed the British, Commonwealth and European super‑middleweight titles with the victory at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds, which will stage the rematch.

Troy Williamson v Callum Simpson rematch confirmed
The rivalry will be renewed on Saturday, August 8, with the British and Commonwealth titles on the line. DAZN will be screeing the action live from West Yorkshire.
Simpson said: “I can’t wait for August 8. Leeds is going to be bouncing. Troy had his night, but I’m coming to take back what’s mine. I’m fitter, sharper and more determined than ever.
“He’s done a lot of talking since the first fight, but now he’s got to back it up. I’m ready to settle the score and remind people who Callum Simpson is.”
Callum Simpson looking to regain momentum
The rematch presents an opportunity for 29-year-old Simpson to get back on track after his sudden loss of momentum at the end of 2025.
Prior to the defeat to Williamson, Simpson had seen off both Zak Chelli and Ivan Zucco at the home of his beloved Barnsley Football Club.

BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom said: “Troy Williamson vs Callum Simpson II is one of British boxing’s most eagerly-anticipated rematches.
"Williamson tore up the script and sent shockwaves through the super-middleweight division when he knocked out Simpson in front of his home fans in December. Now, Simpson is out for revenge and has the opportunity to put things right and prove he belongs at world level.
"Leeds will provide an incredible atmosphere, and we’re excited to build on this momentum with more major events on DAZN, including a huge BOXXER pay-per-view event later this year.”
