Former England spinner signs for Huddersfield League team

Two former England players could be in opposition next season in the PFW Huddersfield Premier League.

Shepley have announced the signing of left-arm spinner Monty Panesar, which means that he may well be facing Samit Patel, who helped Hoylandswaine win the Premier Division this season as well as the Sykes Cup and the delayed 2025 Yorkshire Champions’ Trophy final.

Panesar, who turns 45 just after the start of next season, played in 50 Test matches for England, taking 167 wickets, and featured in 26 one-day internationals, bagging 24 wickets.

His first-class career ended 10 years ago with Northamptonshire, who he represented from 2001-09 before playing for Sussex for four years and Essex for two.

Shepley finished seventh out of 12 in this summer’s Huddersfield ECB Premiership.
