Gibson and Malone deny Collingham

Aire/Wharfe

ONLY two First Division clubs – Kirkstall Educational and Burley – have 100 per cent records to show for their efforts over the opening fortnight.

Kirkstall were made to work hard for their 229, Toby Jacklin picking up 7-72 off his 15.4 over spell with Jonny Wright top-scoring on 59. Collingham looked to be going well with Jacklin hitting 48 but Joe Gibson (5-42) and Paul Malone (5-43) kept pegging away and they dismissed the visitors 11 runs short of victory with just two balls left.

There was no such drama at North Leeds where Burley inflicted the home side's second heavy defeat. Ryan Cooper top- scored with an unbeaten 91 in Burley's 224-7 and with Jason Wright (5-36) doing most of the damage, North Leeds were dismissed for less than 100 for the second week in a row.

Beckwithshaw have started the defence of their title in some style, John Inglis following up his previous week's 97 with 83 in their 238-9. Otley were never in the chase but a dogged last-wicket stand between Josh Brook and Paul Nicholson meant the home side hung on for a point.

Les Gaylard hit an unbeaten 80 in Rawdon's 170 but he could not stop them going down to a second defeat when Dave Pennett (50no) steered Guiseley home with eight wickets to spare.

Neil Abbott (76) and Phil Atkinson (67) helped Green Lane to 209-7 and even though Adel put up a spirited response, the visitors took four points from the draw.

Phil Timmens followed up a four-wicket haul with 7-39 to set up a 10-wicket win for Bilton at Upper Wharfedale and put them at the head of the pack in Division Two. Darren Blenkiron (48) and Joel Leggett (51) led the run race.

Jeremy Batty (95no) again led the way for Harden but a determined, unbeaten 33 from Jonathan Tattersall earned Knaresborough a point.

Tight bowling by Cory Jacobs (5-44) restricted Steeton to

216-9, 12 runs short of victory at Silsden.

Luke Waters hit 124 for Tong Park Esholt but half-centuries from Imran Mirza and Julian Thornhill saw Calverley hang on for two points.

Ed Brown (86) maintained his good early form as Olicanian took four points against Illingworth.
