Title race still between Methley and Townville

THE Premiership title will be decided on the final day this Saturday.

Leaders Methley, who host Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, are one point ahead of defending champions Townville, who play Hunslet Nelson at Poplar Avenue.

Jack Hampshire Trophy winners Methley are aiming to complete a league and cup double. With no play in any of Saturday’s six Premiership matches, Hopton Mills and Hunslet Nelson were both relegated.

Hunslet have never recovered from a dreadful start that saw them without a win in their first 12 league games. Promoted Hopton made a promising start to their first season in the top flight by beating Methley on the opening day, but have since won only two league matches.

Early-season leaders Scholes will hope to bow out on a high note when they host Wakefield Thornes in their final CYL fixture before they switch to the Bradford League next year.

Ossett opener Shoaib Latif, the Premiership’s top scorer, needs 89 runs in Saturday’s match at Birstall to reach 1,000 for the season.

Buttershaw St Paul’s will join Championship title winners Batley in the top flight.
