Davison holds his nerve to earn victory

Wharfedale edged a topsy turvy game thanks to Tom Davison’s nerveless penalty two minutes from the end.

The Greens hardly had any possession going up the hill in the first half and Sedgley Park will have been disappointed to only lead 7-0 at half-time.

In customary fashion, the Wharfedale pack started to influence the game and on 52 minutes Steve Graham scored, though the conversion was missed. After a Sedgley penalty Dan Solomi crossed on 65 minutes, Davison converting.

A penalty by Sedgley edged them in front only for James Gough to re-establish the visitors’ lead with a drop goal.

Another penalty on 72 minutes nudged Park 16-15 ahead before Davison was presented with the chance to win it on 78 minutes.

Under huge pressure he kicked it between the posts and Wharfedale then withstood Park’s late flourish to claim the win.
