Barnsley 1 Leicester City 1: Tykes suffer King equaliser

Barnsley drew 1-1 with big-spending Leicester City at Oakwell today in the Championship.

Manager Keith Hill made just one change from the side which emerged with a point from their trip to Millwall a fortnight ago.

Bobby Hassell got the vote at right-back in place of Scott Wiseman, who dropped to the bench as Jim O’Brien came into the side on the left of midfield.

Danny Drinkwater was given Hassell’s midfield holding role as he made his Oakwell debut.

Former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford, a £2.5m deadline day signing from Everton, made his Leicester debut, partnering Darius Vassell for Sven Goran Eriksson’s expensively-assembled side.

Barnsley produced a stunning first half display and the only surprise was that it took until the 38th minute to break the deadlock.

Left-back Jim McNulty overlapped and crossed deep where Andy Gray, who had earlier headed wide from six yards, headed against the bar but Jacob Butterfield was on hand to head home the rebound.

Andy King replaced the injured Paul Gallagher at half-time and scored with his first touch, converting Beckford’s low cross in the opening minute of the half.

Leicester threatened to take control but Barnsley came back at them and were denied by three tremendous saves from Kasper Schmeichel from Butterfield, substitute Danny Haynes and O’Brien.
