19-year-old Toney joins from Newcastle, who signed him in the summer from Northampton Town.

The forward played 53 times for the Cobblers in the league, scoring 11 times. He made his first team debut on November 13, 2012, at the age of 17.

Toney played once in the league for Newcastle before moving out on loan. He came on as an 85th minute substitute in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

Barnsley are currently 22nd in League One. They were knocked out in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday, losing 1-0 against non-league side Altrincham.
