The Reds have an option to purchase the 20-year-old on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

In his first season with Orlando, Dike has scored eight goals and provided four assists and was named as the MLS Rookie of the Year in 2020 while also being in the running for the MLS Young Player of the Year award - before finishing third.

Capable of playing centrally or on the right, the 6ft 2in forward earned his first call-up to the US national side last November and won his first cap on Sunday against Trinidad and Tobago.

On the signing of Dike, Reds CEO Dane Murphy said: "Most of the club's work was completed early in this window, we're ecstatic to get a player of Daryl's calibre into the squad. He has had a rapid rise in his career over the last two years, showing he possesses a ton of talent.

"The club believe he will undoubtedly prove a real asset between now and May.

"It has been well documented that Valerien (Ismael) wanted to strengthen his forward line and in the short-term, this addition will go some way to accomplish that."

Dike is Barnsley's third signing of the window, following on from the additions of Carlton Morris and Liam Kitching.
