BARNSLEY head coach Gerhard Struber insists he remains focused on his position amid rumoured interest from New York Red Bulls - and is hopeful the club can add to the options in their squad with some signings shortly to boost their prospects this season.

Reports have circulated that the Austrian has become a surprise target for the MLS franchise.

Red Bulls recently parted company with head coach Chris Armas and reports suggest that Struber has been targeted as a potential replacement.

Portuguese manager Jorge Simão, 44 - who most recently managed Saudi Arabian side Al-Fayha - has also emerged as a potential candidate for the Red Bulls' position.

It is the latest link regarding Struber, whose feats in keeping Barnsley in the Championship last season have earned admirers in England and abroad, with the 42-year-old attracting the interest of Watford before they plumped for Vladimir Ivić.

Addressing the latest speculation, Struber - who joined the club from Wolfsberger AC last November - said: "It is not a new one for me that some clubs are interested in me.

"It is the situation. But right now, I have a big focus and concentration here in Barnsley. I have a responsibility for a good preparation for my team against Coventry and this is my only concentration and not what comes from the outside.

"Now, I have a little experience with that, but not more. Right now, it is the focus on a big game tomorrow. This is the thing that is interesting for me and what is my team. We give the whole energy in this direction."

On whether he is happy at Oakwell, he stressed: "Yes, absolutely.

"I have a very good time here in Barnsley and am looking forward with a good team. It is a team where we know we need one or other new players and it is also not a big surprise.

"But I am happy here in Barnsley.

"We are in a good exchange and we hope we can bring the right striker here to Barnsley. It is not easy, but we fight for that the whole time to find the right striker and players to help us from the first second.

"I hope that our owners help us in this moment with the right investment. It is necessary and everyone knows that. We are in a very good exchange with the owners about that. Looking forward, I have a good feeling we (will) have the right players for the next time.

"I am always in exchange with my owners and we are in exchange about one or other player and we are hopeful we will make the right decisions in the next few days or weeks hopefully. Then, we are finished with this situation with transfers.

"We are always in a good exchange. Not always in the same opinion. This is normal when you work together. I think we are going in the right direction and this is hopeful."
