Bradford City boss Michael Duff on Huddersfield Town reunion plus praise for 'devastating' Terriers

BRADFORD City manager Michael Duff insists that Saturday's League One derby against Huddersfield Town is not spiced up by the fact that he faces the club who sacked him just under 20 months ago.

Duff managed Town for almost 10 months before being axed in March 2025, with many observers viewing his dismissal as harsh.

The 48-year-old is quick to stress that he has moved on following the events of that early spring as he prepares to face Town, who arrive at Valley Parade as league leaders with City residing in fourth spot.

Duff said: "I enjoyed the year that I was there; not quite a year. I've got nothing bad to say, but this weekend is not about me.

"It's two historic clubs with over 100 years of history, two big football clubs. That's what the day should be about.

"Two sets of supporters going at it, two players going at it. Hopefully a ding-dong game with a good football match.

"I want Bradford City to win, because I'm now at Bradford City and that's my job. I've got no ill feeling, it is what it is.

"Lots of things happen in football for a reason. Whether you think they're unjust or not. Everyone's got a story. No one's interested really."

Duff, whose side have not conceded a goal so far under his watch - with the run including four league matches - is conscious that his side will have to be at their best defensively against a Terriers side who are chasing their fourth straight league success.

He added: "They are a devastating counter-attacking team.

"They are quite happy to give the ball up at times, but they're doing that for a reason, because they are devastating on the turnover with Bali Mumba, Joe Taylor, (Derensili Sanches) Fernandes and (Ilias) Bronkhorst.

"I left there 18 months ago and I think there's two players that are left in the squad, so it shows the turnover they've had. They probably needed it but Martin (Drury) has done a really good job."

Duff admits to a real ‘quandary’ regarding who will replace suspended midfielder Callum Connolly.

Striker Stephen Humphreys (back) is set to miss out again, while Nick Powell (tonsilitis) is being assessed.
