Bradford City boss Michael Duff on red mist following last meeting with Huddersfield Town - plus derby memories

AFTER 'two good games' against former club Huddersfield Town last season, Bradford City manager Michael Duff is eyeing another on his renewal of acquaintances on Saturday - albeit without the late flashpoint of his last meeting with the Terriers.

That arrived in April at the Accu Stadium. Duff, then in charge of Wycombe Wanderers, saw his side score two stoppage-time equalisers in an astonishing finale, with the game ending 3-3.

The second arrived in the 11th minute of added-on time. Duff was given a red card during Wanderers' celebrations.

Duff received a £1,000 fine for misconduct. It was alleged that he entered the opposition's technical area in an aggressive or confrontational manner.

Duff recalled: "Without getting myself in trouble, I was that far out in the technical area (indicates short space). That's where I got sent off from when we just scored a 101st minute equaliser.

"The game was ding-dong. I think they went 2-1 up in the 90th minute. We equalised. They scored in the 96th minute.

"My frustration is that their whole bench disappears down the touchline and then we score in the 101st minute and I get sent off for being that far out in the technical area.

"Technically I was, so you can't appeal it. That's where the human element you'd like to think would kick in, but it didn't.

"But it was two good games against them last year. They're a good team, a big club with big expectations.

"The amount of investment and turnaround in players has been key in their upturn as well as having a good manager.”

In terms of derby memories, Duff has a few to savour from his playing and managerial days and some he'd prefer to gloss over - such as his Barnsley side's play-off final loss at Wembley to Sheffield Wednesday in May 2023.

Duff added: "One of my best memories as a player was going to Blackburn and beating them for the first time in 35 years because that got rammed down your throat a lot.

"To go there in a year that we got promoted, that was huge. They’ve got the big away end at Blackburn and we had all of that, so that was one of the more enjoyable moments as a player.”

Saturday's derby at Valley Parade kicks off at 12.30pm.
