Cardiff City slap '£10m-plus' tag on former Sheffield Wednesday and Arsenal man amid Luton Town interest

Cardiff City reportedly want at least £10m for former Sheffield Wednesday defender Mark McGuinness amid interest from Luton Town.

A towering centre-back, McGuinness only spent half a season at Hillsborough but quickly endeared himself to Owls supporters. He impressed over the course of his 24 appearances after joining on loan from Cardiff City.

Despite pleas from fans for a permanent deal to be struck, McGuinness returned to Cardiff and established himself as a key figure for the Bluebirds. According to Wales Online, Luton are keen on luring the Arsenal academy graduate away from Wales.

However, in order to do so, they may need to cough up a significant transfer fee. The report claims Cardiff value McGuinnes at ‘£10m-plus’, which is perhaps not too surprising considering he is under contract until 2027.

Cardiff are said to be firm in their stance of not needing to sell, although money often talks when high transfer fees are banded around. He would arguably be a significant coup for Luton, who are back in the Championship after a season in the Premier League.

Many would argue the Hatters are well-positioned for a promotion tilt, having recruited an array of top Championship performers upon their promotion to the top flight.

They also have a highly-rated manager in Rob Edwards, although have made just two signings this summer. Shandon Baptiste has joined the Hatters from Brentford, while Reuell Walters has made the switch from Arsenal.
