Doncaster Rovers chief hails "accomplished" display after another win

Delighted Darren Moore saw his "accomplished" side pick up another win but he still knows there is more to come.

First half goals from Fejiri Okenabirhie and Taylor Richards saw them go 2-0 up against AFC Wimbledon tonight and - though they did not add to that tally - they never looked back.

It was a perfect response after losing 4-0 at West Ham in the FA Cup on Saturday and was a seventh win in eight games in League One, taking them up to fourth in the table.

Moore said: "I was really pleased.

"I thought it was a good accomplished performance. We set the tone really early and Fe' took his goal really, really well. It was a clean strike.

"Once that goal went in (after ten minutes) we were able to get a real foothold in the game and control it.

"Some of the passes, some of the effective passes and the movement the boys were showing, it meant it always kept them on the back foot in the first half.

"To go in at half-time with Taylor Richards' goal at two nil we knew they'd come out and come after us a bit more.

"But apart from a 15, 20 minute spell at the start of the second half I thought we regained control of it and saw the game out."

Bizarrely, right-back Brad Halliday could have had a hat-trick after hitting the crossbar in the first half and going close twice in the second period.

Moore, whose side visit leaders Lincoln City on Saturday, said: "It was a clean strike when he hit the crossbar.

"He's been in real good form and, for the team, they can feel like it's a good three points.

"We knew that Wimbledon would put the ball in the box but our two centre-backs got their heads on it and, when called upon, Ellery (Balcombe) was really spot on.

"He took a lot of crosses, had to come and punch a few, so the concentration from their point of view everyone played their part.

"In areas of the game, we could have used the ball better and chose a better pass of made a better decision in the second half.

"But that is a small critique."

John Taylor came off with a sore groin but Moore insisted he was "fine" and the manager also said new signing John Bostock was "close" to playing.

He could debut against Lincoln.
