FA Cup first round: Doncaster Rovers missing home comforts as Rotherham United take Champions League inspiration
Doncaster Rovers have become adept at navigating tricky FA Cup first-round games away at lower-league opposition in Grant McCann’s time. It is just their manager is ready for a home game.
Two years ago the then-League Two side won away at Conference side Kettering Town on their way to a fourth-round exit at home to eventual winners Crystal Palace.
Then last season, Crewe from the division below were overcome in the first round, en route to a third-round defeat to Southampton.
This year, Rovers have been handed a trip to Kidderminster Harriers, two divisions below in the fifth tier.

“I don't think we do anything different. We always try and approach every game as best we can, given the opposition we're playing against,” McCann, pictured, told The Yorkshire Post.
“I don't think there's any real special ingredients behind it.
“It would be nice to have a home game. Since I've been here, I don't think we've had a home game in the first or second round."
Rotherham are without nine first-teamers at Bromley, with Jili Buyabu, Kian Spence and Dominic Iorfa suspended.

The Millers, who swapped divisions with Bromley in the summer, have gone 10 matches without a win. But coach Alex Bruce believes his men can take inspiration from his dad Steve's former club Manchester United, who ended a nine-match winless streak in Tuesday's Champions League.
“Confidence can be affected by a run of games,” he said. “But confidence can easily come as well.
“We've seen it, on a larger stage, with Manchester United and that result against Roma. Two-nil down at half-time, they get a last-minute winner.
“It can galvanise things. We need something similar. I've got confidence in the players.”
Bruce labeled Buyabu's red card an “act of stupidity”, but says he has calmed down after telling the Sheffield United loanee to stay away from the training ground for a few days. “It's very easy to say he can't play for the club again,” said Bruce.
“I'd be lying to you if I said I didn't feel that kind of sentiment on that Saturday night when I'm driving away after a week's prep.
“However, I am short on numbers, I've got a hell of an injury list, I haven't got the biggest of squads, I haven't got many left-sided players and I know what Jili's capable of.”
York City will be lifted by the return of two “big players” at home to Northampton Town on Saturday.
Olli Banks missed the 5-2 defeat at Grimsby Town through concussion protocols, when Hiram Boateng was suspended.
“They're two big players,” commented coach Scott Lindsey.
“It gives me more options, with the squad the way it was in the last game.”
The Minstermen are considering knee surgery for defender Morgan Williams, who suffered a grade two medial cruciate ligament injury and a meniscus tear against Barnet.
Meanwhile, Doncaster's League One game at home to Leyton Orient, scheduled for November 14, has been postponed due to international call-ups.
