Gareth Evans backed to carry on scoring for unbeaten Bradford City

Evans bagged two goals with Danny Rowe also getting on the scoresheet as the Bantams pulled themselves seven points clear of the bottom two with a deserved win at Roots Hall.

City will be looking to extend their impressive run under interim coaching duo Conor Sellars and Trueman when they host Barrow on Saturday.

“We know the qualities of Gareth Evans, and he shows it in training,” said Trueman, who saw his team score three goals for the first time since stepping in to oversee the first team with Sellars. “I think the more games and match fitness he gets, the more goals he is going to score for the team.

“We needed to add more goals and have worked on that. It all comes from the structure we have behind the ball, and we are happy to be creating chances and threatening the backline more.”

“We talked about running forward and breaking their backline, and I thought we did that well in the second half.

“We were delighted to get the goals and are delighted for Rowey to get off the mark - which is obviously a positive thing.”

Trueman said the win showed once again how his players were willing and able to adapt their game to different challenges.

“I was delighted to get the three points – it was a big result for us,” he added. “It takes us further away from the wrong end of the table.

“We showed how adaptable we can be, in the way we play, and everyone was really pleased to have come away with the win. Obviously, we were disappointed to have conceded, as it was a sloppy goal to give away.”
