Alfreton v FC Halifax: Aspin thrilled by Shaymen reaction

FC HALIFAX TOWN manager Neil Aspin has expressed his pride at the Shaymen’s impressive start to 2014-15 – and avoidance of the dreaded ‘second-season syndrome’.

Halifax find themselves in second spot in the Conference Premier table after 12 matches and have showed no hangover from last term when they defied the odds to reach the play-offs, losing out 2-1 on aggregate to promoted Cambridge n the semi-final.

Aspin’s side, who visit lowly Alfreton this evening, trail Barnet by four points, having lost just twice so far this season and, despite a frustrating weekend draw at Braintree, the Geordie is thrilled by his side’s reaction following last season’s highs.

He said: “I am proud of the players that they have now played 12 games and given a good account of themselves.

“We know at times we can be better, but every game is difficult.

“We are still only in our second season at this level.

“Everybody said you find the second season a lot tougher and the lads are doing the club proud.”

Marc Roberts is expected to recover from a head injury to feature tonight at the Impact Arena, where Halifax lost 3-0 last season.

Captain Lois Maynard is doubtful with a hip problem.

Guiseley and North Ferriby have been handed home ties following yesterday’s FA Cup third-qualifying round draw.

The Lions welcome Evo-Stik Premier Division strugglers Halesowen Town, with Ferriby playing host to Grantham Town.

Bradford Park Avenue host Buxton if they beat AFC Fylde if triumph in tonight’s replay in Lancashire.

Sheffield FC will travel to Colwyn Bay, provided they prevail in this evening’s replay on home soil.

Third-qualifying round ties will be played on the weekend of October 11-12.
