Huddersfield Town boss Martin Drury on Terriers 'mindset' and a dream night for teenager at Doncaster Rovers

HUDDERSFIELD Town head coach Martin Drury praised his side's endeavour for finishing another game strongly and on the front foot after a dominant final quarter saw them shrug off a 1-0 deficit to triumph 3-1 in their EFL Trophy opener at Doncaster Rovers.

Rovers had led thanks to Leon Ayinde's first goal for the club in the 40th minute and were on top in the ‘first half’ of the second half, but could not add a second goal.

Not for the first time this term, Town – who made a number of changes with a number of senior squad players handed starts - produced a fine comeback story and prevailed 3-1 to secure their first ever win at this particular venue.

Altrincham teenager Jamie Spencer was afforded a dream debut after scoring with his first touch to level things up shortly after coming on as a substitute and further goals from captain-for-the-night Joe Low and Lasse Sorensen saw Town register an overdue triumph, as far as they are concerned, in Doncaster.

Drury said: "I thought we finished the game really, really strongly and that's credit to the players for their mentality to go 1-0 down and respond with a strong mindset with no excuses and be relentless all the way to the end, and just keep going in a really tough game because Doncaster are a good side.

"I’ll start with the more senior players. I'm really pleased that, first of all, they've got a game where they can get their minutes.

"I've just said to them in the changing room that they're not playing games right now, or they're not starting as many games as they'd like, and it's not through any fault of their own. They're not doing nothing wrong. And it's a testament to the way that they're training every single day.

"They can then come and perform and put 90 minutes in, when they haven't had that 90 minutes for a long time.

"So, I'm really pleased for those players who are working incredibly hard every day and deserve to be playing football.

"And then alongside that the young players that are in the squad and then come on the pitch.

"It's a fantastic experience for them. I have to say, they didn't make us weaker in any way. They actually added energy and, look at Jamie's goal, he added instinct and quality.

"So, it's full credit to the academy for the education that the young players are getting."
