Huddersfield Town boss Martin Drury reveals half-time pep talk to star turn Derensili Sanches Fernandes at Bradford City

HUDDERSFIELD Town head coach Martin Drury revealed that he had to give a half-time pep talk to Derensili Sanches Fernandes on Saturday - and his words worked a treat.

Town's star winger had a relatively quiet first half in the 3-0 derby win at Valley Parade and was a bit down with himself at the interval, according to Drury.

He felt much better after netting the Terriers' second goal in the 48th minute, before celebrating with Town's ecstatic supporters in the Bradford End.

Drury said: "He was sitting in the changing room (at half-time), looking quite down and flat. I sort of crouched down to him and said: 'Look, your moment will come.

"The game's chaos. It's just a longer 'chaos' moment in these types of games, so the game's not even settled yet and we've played 45 minutes. Don't get disheartened. The game will settle and you'll get a moment and then it's up to you to produce'.

"Yet again, he did because he's just got such quality. He's in a fantastic way."

After a bruising 3-1 loss at Bradford on their previous visit to BD8 last September, Town followers were afforded the volte-face in terms of emotions on a jubilant derby day.

The Town chief continued: "Local derbies are not quite what they used to be back when I was much younger. I felt this was a little more like that.

"I felt there was real heat between both groups (beforehand). I felt that through the week, probably more than I anticipated. You could feel it.

"So to come here and produce the level of performance, particularly in the second half - is full credit to our players.

"The supporters were brilliant for us. Hopefully they enjoy the next few days because it's back to work on Tuesday night against Luton."
