Huddersfield Town chief Martin Drury's prediction regarding 'class act' Ashley Fletcher
HUDDERSFIELD Town head coach Martin Drury feels it is only a matter of time before ‘class act’ Ashley Fletcher breaks his goalscoring duck with the Terriers.
While the vastly experienced striker has contributed fully to Town's strong start to the season with his ability to lead the line and create opportunities for others, his wait for a maiden goal for the club is now up to eight games in all competitions.
Drury fully understands that the 30-year-old, who netted 21 times for Blackpool last term, is desperate to get off the mark.
But he also knows that the ex-Barnsley, Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday man, pictured, is mature enough to know he is playing his part in other respects.

Drury said: “Ashley's a class act. He's great around the place and works incredibly hard every day.
“He's desperate to score goals and get as many goals as he can. He wants to improve on last season's goal tally, so he's desperate to do it. He's doing everything to do that.
“Looking at the game at Doncaster when he came on, I think his all-round play in general has been really good and he's helped us.
“MK Dons was another stand-out. In the first half, he was exceptional.

“So he's been brilliant for us and a real good acquisition to the group.
“I know how desperate he is to score goals. I'd like to think that he's got some comfort knowing that we're not all looking and going: 'come on, where is it?'
“I believe it's coming and it will come and I think hopefully he takes some comfort knowing that he's got confidence around him from both his peers and other staff.
“He's giving everything and doing everything and I've no doubt that he's going to have a top season for us.”
Drury has confirmed that captain Ryan Ledson will be out for ‘four to six weeks’ after damaging his elbow in last weekend’s League One draw at Mansfield Town.
The midfielder, pretty much a constant in the Town side in an impressive 2026, exited the fray on 38 minutes and looked to be in considerable pain.
Drury, whose unbeaten side visit Bromley for the first time on Saturday, added: “We lose Ryan now for probably about four to six weeks; he has an issue with his ligaments in his elbow.
“It’s positive that he doesn't need surgery, that was a real positive. He has a tear in his tricep as well, so we've got a couple of issues; it was quite a heavy fall in the game. It is disappointing for both him and us as a group, because he's been a real leader for us and his performances have been really good.”
Providing an update on David Kasumu, Jack Whatmough, Sean Roughan and Samson Tovide, Drury continued: “Jack's trained Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, so he'll be available for selection to an extent.
“Sean's the same, he’s trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday this week, again he’s available for selection to an extent.
“Samson is the same, he’s available this weekend. Kasumu's not quite there yet, so we're still nursing that injury with him, so he won't be available this week.”
