Huddersfield Town star Joe Taylor due to miss Burton Albion trip after maiden Wales call-up

Huddersfield Town’s in-form forward Joe Taylor has been rewarded for his exploits with an international call-up

Huddersfield Town star Joe Taylor has been rewarded for his scintillating form with a maiden call-up to the Wales squad.

The 23-year-old joined the Terriers from Luton Town in January 2025 but did not immediately hit the ground running in West Yorkshire.

Having found opportunities limited under Lee Grant, he was allowed to spend the second half of last season on loan at Wigan Athletic.

A goal-laden stint with the Latics led to a reintegration at the Accu Stadium and the forward has already registered five goals in League One this term.

Huddersfield Town star drafted into Wales squad

Taylor did not make the initial Wales squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures but has been drafted in following the withdrawal of Wrexham’s Nathan Broadhead.

Craig Bellamy has also lost Manchester United goalkeeper Karl Darlow and Leeds United winger Harry Wilson, prompting call-ups for Leicester City stopper David Cornell and Reading midfielder Charlie Savage.

Taylor and Cornell are both uncapped at senior level but have each represented the Dragons at youth level. Savage, meanwhile, won his first senior cap back in 2023.

Wales are due to visit Portugal on Thursday (September 24) before facing Denmark away from home on Sunday (September 27). They will then return to home turf to host Norway and then take on Denmark for a second time.

Huddersfield Town a man down

Huddersfield’s trip to Burton Albion is scheduled for October 3 and Wales’ final fixture will take place a day later, meaning Taylor will be unavailable to Terriers head coach Martin Drury.

Defender Radinio Balker, however, is expected to be due back in time for the game once he has completed his duties with Suriname.

Surianme will visit Honduras on Saturday (September 26) before hosting Martinique on September 28.
