Huddersfield Town will be relegated over ‘my dead body’, vows Danny Cowley

The Terriers begin the week in the Championship’s bottom three after they lost at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

It was Town’s third successive defeat, and one which increased fears amongst some sections of supporters that they could suffer successive relegations.

The picture could look different by Saturday night, however, with Huddersfield set to face Birmingham City at St Andrews tomorrow before hosting Preston North End at the weekend.

“It is hurting all of us now, there is no hiding place from that. We are on the floor at the moment but we have not been counted out and we are certainly not dead,” said Cowley.

“We will go again and we will get at Birmingham and you will see a real fighting performance.

“Then, we will dust ourselves down and you will see a fighting performance at Preston because over my dead body are we getting relegated.”

Huddersfield will play seven matches in 21 days, starting with tomorrow’s contest at Birmingham before ending the campaign at Millwall on July 22.

Cowley feels his side are lacking physicality and wants improvement at both ends of the field.

He added: “We are in the position that we are in, there is no time for anyone to feel sorry for themselves.

“The games are going to come quick in the next 20-odd days and we have to prepare and move forward. Everything is fixable.

“We have to suck up the disappointment, it is not a good time to lose three games on the trot.

“We need to improve our physicality in both boxes.”
