Hull City, Leeds United and Ipswich Town 'keeping eye' on Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope

Hull City and Leeds United reported to be keeping an eye on Newcastle United’s Nick Pope

Hull City are reportedly keeping tabs on Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope along with Leeds United and Ipswich Town.

Newcastle’s capture of Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims has cast doubt upon Pope’s future at Newcastle, four years on from his move to the Magpies from Burnley.

Hull City thrown into the Nick Pope mix

Premier League-bound Hull have now been thrown into the mix by TuttoMercatoWeb, who have claimed the Tigers are keeping an eye on the seasoned stopper along with Leeds and Ipswich.

He is said to have been valued around the £10m mark, with Newcastle seemingly ready to let him seek pastures new.

Hull were promoted with Ivor Pandur between the sticks but may be looking to intensify competition for the 26-year-old, who is currently on World Cup duty with Croatia.

Leeds, meanwhile, could lose Karl Darlow on a free transfer amid talk of interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. Lucas Perri, who Darlow dislodged in January, flattered to deceive in his maiden Premier League campaign.

Illan Meslier’s departure has already been confirmed, although the club are in talks with back-up Alex Cairns over a new deal.

Ipswich, like Hull, are preparing for a return to the Premier League after sealing promotion to the Championship. Their situation has been somewhat complicated by the departure of Kieran McKenna from his role as Tractor Boys boss.

Nick Pope’s profile

Pope’s appeal to the three linked clubs is not difficult to understand and he would arguably be a sensible addition.

He is not the most modern of goalkeepers when it comes to dealing with the ball at his feet, but is a commanding presence and excellent shot-stopper.

The 34-year-old is no stranger to Yorkshire either having had loan spells at York City in 2013 and 2014.
