DONCASTER ROVERS have completed their first piece of deadline-day business with the acquisition of Southampton wingman Josh Sims - who has joined on loan until January.

The Saints player, 23, could be handed a debut against the club's fierce south coast rivals Portsmouth at Fratton Park tomorrow.

Several clubs were in the mix to sign Sims, a former England under-20 international.

But Rovers manager Darren Moore, with a strong reputation for developing young players, has won the race for the services of the pacy winger.

Sims have spent two previous loan spells away from Southampton.

He joined Reading back in 2018, making 17 Championship appearances before a move to MLS outfit New York Red Bulls last term, which saw him score one goal in ten games.

Sims, who joined Saints academy in 2011, has represented England from under-17 level up to under-20s.

League One outfit Rovers are also aiming to bring in another player on deadline day and have been linked with Manchester City schemer Matt Smith.
