'We have to' - Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu's admission after loss to AFC Bournemouth

Ethan Ampadu has reflected on Leeds United’s 2-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth

Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has insisted the Whites must look inwards following their “frustrating” 2-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth.

Daniel Farke’s side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession at the Vitality Stadium but left the south coast empty-handed.

Evanilson opened the scoring after a James Trafford blunder and Amine Adli doubled the lead deep into stoppage time.

Ethan Ampadu reflects

Post-match, Ampadu said: “[It was] absolutely frustrating. It didn't really feel like a 2-0 game, but it is at the end of the day, so we have to look at what we can do better.

“They only had a couple of chances and they put them in the back of the net. Maybe as a team, as a whole team, we can be better.

“We knew they play with a lot of intensity, and so do we, so we wanted to make sure that we matched that. We wanted to win that battle and we knew that this game was going to come down to small chances.

“Maybe on another day the game would go a bit differently, but unfortunately today it wasn't to be. We have to look back on it and see what we can do better.”

The defeat was Leeds’ second of their Premier League campaign and has pushed them down to 11th in the table.

They will have a chance to bounce back this weekend, when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s reaction

Farke said: “Football is brutal, sometimes it can feel like the most unfair sport in the world because one goal is very often decisive.

“If you play basketball, you can be unlucky and hit the ring sometimes and the other team not. Or you play tennis and sometimes you are lucky or not but always the better player wins, or the better team wins.

“Football, because it’s very often just about one goal, it can be the other way around.

“First half, especially the first 30 minutes, we were terrific, played fantastic football, scored one of the best team goals of the season and thought we would be in the lead.”
