Leeds United dealt transfer blow as ex-Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt opts for Ajax move
Leeds United transfer target Julian Brandt has made a high-profile move
Leeds United have missed out on the signing of experienced playmaker Julian Brandt.
The 30-year-old left Borussia Dortmund upon the expiry of his contract last month, becoming one of the most high-profile free agents on the market.
Leeds were on Brandt’s trail but faced competition from a raft of clubs, which indicated a deal could be difficult to do.

Leeds United miss out on Julian Brandt
Dutch giants Ajax have won the race for the attacking midfielder’s signature, tying him to a deal running until 2029.
The move marks Brandt’s first venture beyond Germany, with Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen his only former employers.
Ajax’s technical director Jordi Cruijff said: “Julian has chosen Ajax, and we are absolutely delighted about that. We have been in talks for several months, and he also had the opportunity to sign for other clubs.
“With Julian, we are bringing in a top international player with a wealth of experience and a fantastic mentality. I am convinced he will add real quality to our squad.”
Brandt would have arguably been a significant coup for the Whites, who will have alternative targets they may now be exploring deals for.

Leeds United’s summer transfer business
As it stands, the summer signings tally at Elland Road stands at two. Tarik Muharemović has arrived from Sassuolo in a £34m deal to bolster the defence and winger Harry Wilson has moved from Fulham on a free transfer. Both featured in the recent friendly win over Sunderland in New Jersey.
Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford appears likely to be signing number three, with a £40m deal for the England international said to have been teed up.
On the outgoings front, Leeds have lost Pascal Struijk to Brighton & Hove Albion and managed to offload the likes of Max Wober, Isaac Schmidt and Jack Harrison.
