Qatar World Cup snubs for Leeds United's Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Pascal Struijk

The Leeds United pair of Diego Llorente and Rodrigo have missed out on selection for Spain's World Cup squad.

With Pascal Struijk left out of the Netherlands' 26-man party, it means the Premier League club will have just three players in Qatar.

Llorente faced a nervous wait having lost his place in the Leeds side to a central defensive combination of Robin Kochwho was overlooked by Germany – and Liam Cooper.Llorente has ten caps for his country, and was an unused substitute for September's Nations League games but has only made one Premier League appearance since, in a dismal team performance at Leicester City.

Rodrigo has been an important figure for Leeds under coach Jesse Marsch and is the more experienced of the two at international level but competition for places with La Roja is extremely high. He missed the squad for the last European Championship and has not played for La Roja this year.

Veteran centre-back Sergio Ramos also failed to make the squad, as did Liverpool midfielder Thiago.

Spain are in a group with Germany, Japan and Costa Rica.

Danish right-back Rasmus Kristensen and American midfielders Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams have also been called up by their countries, but Mateusz Klich was dropped by Poland.

Dual-nationality defender Struijk pledged his allegiances to the Netherlands over Belgium earlier this season and was named in their provisional squad but is yet to make his international debut.
