Mansfield Town v Huddersfield Town: 'We've achieved nothing so far', warns Martin Drury

AFTER some deserved pats on the back early on in 2026-27, Martin Drury feels Huddersfield Town's appointment at Mansfield will constitute a 'real test' of their progress so far.

The Stags were the opponents for Town's final home game last season under Drury, then in interim command with Jon Stead.

It proved an eye-opener as Nigel Clough's side sauntered to a 4-1 victory at the Accu Stadium.

Drury heads to Nottinghamshire on the back of his first accomplishment after being named as League One's manager-of-the-month for August.

Nice that it was to be recognised, the 40-year-old is wise to the fact that Town are just at the start of what he hopes will be a long and rewarding journey with him.

Drury said: "I feel there is a togetherness about the club and group, about the way that we train, the way that we work every day.

"But I still think we're very much at the start of the journey. I think we've achieved nothing so far.

"We've had a relatively positive start and I really like the feel around the place. I love the players and how they're going about things every day, but it (Mansfield) will be a real test for us. It is one that we look forward to.

"Of course, that was a really difficult day at the back end of the season. That's seen me 'alive' for the last five months."

One encouraging aspect since last season for Drury has been the way in which his side have been finishing games so far this term.

He commented: "I wanted to see if there's some stats that could evidence that and back that up.

"We had a look and I presented them to players from the back end of last season - around the last 15 minutes of games and beyond - of where we would sit in a league table and we were rock bottom. We're currently top or joint top, as far as I'm aware.

"So that gives me confidence to feel that we have made developments in that area."

Drury has confirmed that defenders Jack Whatmough and Sean Roughan have returned to training, but today’s game comes too soon.

Recent signing Samson Tovide is also progressing well, but remains unavailable.
