Sheffield United 'looking' at Motherwell's former West Ham and Birmingham City defender Emmanuel Longelo

Sheffield United have been credited with interest in a key Motherwell figure

Sheffield United are reportedly looking at Motherwell defender Emmanuel Longelo ahead of the winter transfer window.

A product of West Ham United’s esteemed youth system, Longelo has been plying his trade north of the border since the summer of 2025.

He has established himself as a key figure for Motherwell and has not missed any of their 19 competitive fixtures this term.

Sheffield United linked with Motherwell defender

According to reporter Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, Sheffield United have the 25-year-old on their radar.

Longelo can operate at left-back or further forward as a wing-back or winger, and has EFL experience having represented Birmingham City and Cambridge United before heading to Scotland.

As it stands, Championship outfit Sheffield United have Harrison Burrows and Sam McCallum in their left-back department.

The Blades have been credited with interest but their budget for the upcoming window is not believed to have been set.

Longelo penned a deal at Fir Park that runs until 2027 and there is an option to extend his stay by a further year. A fee, therefore, would be required to lure him back to England.

Emmanuel Longelo’s soaring stock

Regardless of whether Sheffield United swoop or not, it does appear likely Longelo could get another opportunity to establish himself in English football.

The former Hammers prospect has gone from strength to strength in Scotland and registered 10 goals and seven assists across 63 appearances.

When he moved to Motherwell from Birmingham in the summer of 2025, Longelo said: “This is a fresh challenge for me.

“The prospect of coming to a new league is thrilling and I’m looking forward to learning new things. I feel I can add to the group and hope I can impress during my time here.”
