The summer transfer window has closed - and Middlesbrough were among the Championship’s big spenders.
After enduring heartbreak in the play-off final last season, the North Yorkshire outfit set about ensuring their squad was capable of mounting another promotion push.
A total of 12 signings were made, with plenty of eye-catching transfer fees forked out to land players considered elite at Championship level.
Among the high-profile arrivals were goalkeeper Radek Vitek, defender Max Arfsten and forward Will Lankshear, who joined from Manchester United, Columbus Crew and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
They also landed highly-rated defender Ashley Phillips on a permanent basis, signing him from Tottenham, and won the race to sign USA youth prospect Rokas Pukštas from Hajduk Split.
The window is now shut but clubs can still sign free agents - and there is a vacant spot in Kim Hellberg’s squad.
Many would argue there is no need for further business but if Boro are tempted, here are 17 free agents they could explore deals for.
